Things are starting to heat up in the competition department with 2 BIG events coming up…

Paul and I just collected a plaque and some $$$ for the 12.7lb walleye that won us the Spring Walleye Derby.  A very nice bonus that helps us pay for some of these upcoming events.

Last weekend, in what has become a tradition now, my friend Matt, his fiance Molly, my brother Kevin, and Julia all get in a boat and fish the CYC tournament out of the Rocky River.  Its always a special one for me, because 6 years ago, this CYC tournament was the first tournament I ever fished, and it was the one that caught me onto the disease of fishing tournaments.  Here I am 6 years later, traveling all over the country fishing 10 plus tournaments a year.

Anyways, the tournament was a blast as always, and we ended up taking 2nd place out of the 30 some boat field.  The day started off kind of slow out in the Avon Lake – Sheffield area.  We were picking fish, but mostly small ones.  Around noon, with only 3 hours left to go, we decided to make a 15 mile run to the Cleveland Dumping Grounds, as we desperately needed to upgrade some fish.  Thanks to the new Starcraft powered by a beast of Mercury 225hp outboard, the run took less than 20 minutes.   Not long after we set up, a rod loaded up and we boated an 8lber.  In the last hour and a half, we upgraded 4 fish, that gave us 32.5lbs, and got us 2nd place.  3 oz weights, 90 back with a purple demon hatchet blade caught all of our upgrades.    Unfortunately, I lost a tank after the planner board came off, that I’m sure would have made the difference, but oh well, that’s how tournament fishing goes…

The next day, I had a learning charter with some guys out of Cleveland, and we ended up finding the fish a few miles north of where we were for the tournament, in 69 fow.  We also got into 2 bonus steelhead!  The first of the year in my boat!  Gosh they are fun in open water.  One of these days, I’m going to take a break from the walleyes and go on a pure chromer hunt out there.

LEWT Championship this weekend, MWC qualifier on Winnebago next weekend, will there be more hardware brought home?!?
