What an incredible year it was on the Lake Erie Walleye Trail! Jason Kopf and I capped it off yesterday with a win in the Championship and secured the Team of the Year Title. I really don’t even know what to say as to how it happened. In the 8 LEWT tournaments we fished, we went 5th, 11th (jigging only), 2nd, 7th, 16th (sub), 6th, 1st, and 1st. To have a season like this, a lot of things have to go your way, it takes a lot of hard work, and you have to execute when you get your opportunities; we did just that, and I’m grateful for it.
The Team of the Year award is really a team award. Our network of Mike, Bryan, Tyler, Jeremy, Joe, and Bryan is awesome, we have so much fun and work so hard for this, I’ll go to battle with you guys any day. Jason and I, there is something special about the way we can work together in the boat. We can communicate and dial a program without even talking, we know when the other needs something before they even know, and I feel like we are getting better with every tournament.
I have to give a big shout out to Jason Fischer and the LEWT crew. When Jason Kopf and I won the TOY in 2010, we got a plastic trophy, a jacket, and probably a bag of pretzels or something. For this one, we took home almost $33,000 and the baddest walleye fishing Team of the Year trophy I’ve ever seen.
It’s crazy, I’m typing this on a Delta flight to Europe to fish in the World Boat Angling World Championship 2023 Riga/Latvia this week.
