We just wrapped up the MWC Huron on Lake Erie and Team Starcraft had quite the showing with 3 top finishes; including a 1st, 5th, and our 7th place finish!  Congrats to my good buddies Gary and Nicholas Zart for their big win.  They did what they had to do, and put it together 2 days in a row!

Teammate Greg Yarbourgh and I had a solid 1st day with 42 pounds and were sitting in 3rd place.  It was a “sporty” day out there with 4-6ft waves that were packing our fish tight up on structure North of Kelly’s Island.  I credit our Lowrance Structure Scan for showing us the transition lines between sand and rock bottom.  We keyed in on these areas, and made short passes crashing them with bottom bouncers and inline weights on spinner rigs.  2013-05-19 18.38.55

2013-05-19 17.31.30Saturday of the tournament was canceled due to high NE winds, so we had to hold off to Sunday to fish the final day of the tournament.  We were greeted with light east winds and a clear beautiful day.  Unfortunately, that also meant more boat traffic and the fish not being packed up on that structure like they are with the higher winds.  It was a lot more of a struggle, but Greg and I managed to grind out 34lbs, highlighted by an 8lber that we 2013-05-19 18.25.52hooked up as we were clearing lines to head in.  You gotta love those last minute fish!  It was a 4lb upgrade that probably made the difference of about 8 places for us!!

The winners, Team Starcraft members Gary and Nicholas Zart, found a school of migrating fish North of Lorain in 48 feet of water.  They keyed in on these fish trolling spinners just off the bottom with Dipsy Divers and 3 oz inline weights.  Way to go guys for figuring that one out, I couldn’t be more proud of you guys!

Yesterday I had a charter and had to go check out this Lorain bite for myself, let me just say, it didn’t disappoint!  We did get chased off the water by a pop up storm, but not before we stuck a few fish Ohio 28+ inch walleyes!  Check out the Lowrance LWX-1 marine weather.   Its so awesome to see this pop up right on your HDS touch screen unit, and it even shows you the nearest lightning strikes within the last 15 minutes.  Its almost a 2013-05-20 11.55.10must have for big water fishing safety!
