Ya know, I absolutely love tournaments and all, but a lot of times, especially in the Spring, I get lost in the fact that it is fun to just go fishing…  and for an occasional boat ride.  Sunday I took Julia, Nick, and Heather for a ride out of Rocky River.  We fished a little, but it wasn’t a full fledged effort, no fish.  However, check out the marks we found on the way home…  Didn’t fish these, but this is an awesome sign, the big girls are on the move east, and we’ll be on em close to home.

Yesterday, a Grand Rapids turn I had got canceled, so the other pilot and I took advantage of the opportunity and went fishing out of Sheffield.  Insane amount of bait and nice walleye marks in the mix as seen on the Lowrance HDS Gen 2s.   Nice grade of fish out there.  I almost think there is too much bait that the fish don’t even care much for our presentation.

Today, I finally got my roommate Casey (whom I’ve had trouble coordinating a fishing trip between his work, my work, and tournament schedule), along with John, another one of our pilots, out on the lake.  We launched out of Rocky River and fished east.  Again, good marks and tons of bait on the Lowrance.   Crank baits high seem to be the trick the last few days.

Tomorrow, we are headed to Vermilion to do some jigging on Ruggles and the Sherrod area.  Hear there is a hot bite there and want to give the jigging rods a work out, as tournament fishing on Lake Erie simply just does not allow that as we will be targeting smaller fish.

Having a couple week break from the tournaments this time a year is nice because it allows time to really experiment, not be forced into targeting big fish, and take out a bunch of good friends on the water.  After this week though, it’ll be full giddy up into MWC Huron prep and I can’t wait!
