Another Lake Erie Walleye Trail this past weekend, another top 5 finish… This is fun! Jason Kopf and I have seemed to have found our mojo from the 2000s, and we even got called “old dogs” in the press…. We had a great day, put a smack down on some great fish and weighed 36.8lbs for 5 fish. We were pulling Off Shore Tackle boards and snap weighting crank baits on the bottom in deep structure. A few keys come to mind on this one… We never lost a fish all day, I have to chalk that up partially to luck, but more so to Berkley Fusion 19 hooks we swapped out on baits. The other key was knowing and adjusting to the current. It was flat calm, so we could troll both directions. With my Fish Hawk X2 down, I could see almost a .5mph difference in speed through the water going opposite directions. When snap weighting crank baits deep on bottom, they are so speed dependent, if you don’t know this, you aren’t in the zone consistently. Also a big shot out to my boys that we work with to help dial in the program, you guys rock and are crushing it, hard work pays off!!!
