Everything seemed to go our way in the Geneva tournament, and Jason Kopf and I were able to secure the W in the Lake Erie Walleye Trail . Winning is tough, we’ve had lots of top 5s and 10s lately, it feels amazing to finally be on top after the day. We had a tough decision in the morning, it was make a super long run east and target some monster fish with minimal fishing time due to the rough lake conditions, or we head right out in front and fish a massive school of solid fish and riffle through a gazillion of them with one micro upgrade at a time. We opted for the later, and made the short run out.

It was on all day. We fished clean, mistake free, and capitalized on our opportunities. Maybe the only mistake we made was not accounting for how fast the Ranger could run in troughs of the waves on the way in and we got in too early and lost some fishing time. The fishing was a pretty simple formula, graph around with Lowrance electronics to find the school, use the Fish Hawk Electronics to find the thermocline and get a feel for the current, then put our baits right there. We were using mostly dipsies with spinners, but Off Shore Tackle Company tadpoles behind planner boards did some work too.

Last season, we had some mediocre events out east after a great start to the season and didn’t finish the job. We are determined to not let that happen again. The championship is less than a month away, and we’ll be ready to go. Thanks to all that came out to this event, what a great one it was! And thanks to my friends that we work with to put together a program, you guys are awesome!
